HUNTER VALLEY DISTILLERY - DISTILLERY
State-of-the-art spirit distillery
After winemaking since 1946 the D'Aquino Group of Companies realised the need for a state-of-the-art spirit distillery in Australia. Greater demand for ethanol (caused by its use in bio fuel) had left a gap in the market and a demand for premium potable spirits. Hunter Valley Distilleries Pty Ltd was licensed as a distillery on 7th May 2009 and after 4 years of planning and construction the distillery began operation at the site of the old Oak milk factory in Muswellbrook NSW.
The distillery's still is a continuous type, consisting of 6-columns. It is the only 6-column still in the Southern Hemisphere and achieves extremely high purity due to the 6x distillation process. The still produces around 3,000,000 litres of high quality potable spirit per annum. Other by-products such as esters and fusal oils are also produced.
Interesting fact:
Some of the columns used at the distillery are hand forged copper and date back to 1935 where they started their life as SVR spirit columns at the old Mildara Winery in the Riverland of South Australia.
